The telling of the story begins in the year 2000 when a family living in Bozeman, Montana happens to stumble across a startling discovery. The family finds that a device which had been handed down through the family as a war souvenir was actually a German system for hiding weapons research secrets as well as other information vital to the Nazis during World War II. Information about the discovery leaks out and into the press and from then on the tension and suspense grows as several groups including the CIA and pro Nazis fight to gain access to the device and all its records. The story reverts back to World War II during Hitler's reign as the family tries to piece together how the device was obtained in the first place and who was responsible for getting it out of Germany.
